Rafael Nadal is getting into better and better form. And the man who defeated the Spanish grandmaster last week in Barcelona felt that in Madrid: Alex de Minaur. The Australian held his own in the Caja Magica and had a good chance in the first set, but in the end Nadal prevailed with 7:6 (6) and 6:3.

The second match between the two within ten days was played indoors. And it was a constant back and forth. First Nadal led with a break, then de Minaur. In the tiebreak, the Australian was able to fend off three set points before finally having to admit defeat. The next task should also suit the five-time Madrid champion: he will face Pedro Chachin, who was able to hold his own against Frances Tiafoe in three sets.

Daniil Medvedev also had to struggle against Matteo Arnaldi. After a weak start, Medvedev won 2:6, 6:4 and 6:4 and will play in the third round against Sebastian Korda, who defeated Max Purcell 6:3 and 6:3.

Stefanos Tsitsipas, on the other hand, was eliminated. The Greek lost to Brazilian veteran Thiago Monteiro 4:6 and 4:6.
