ATP Challenger Bratislava: Novak on and Maden and Gojowczyk out

In the ATP Challenger 110 tournament in Bratislava, only Dennis Novak has reached the quarter-finals among the starters from Germany and Austrians. While the Niederösterreicher moved into the quarter-finals with a victory against local hero Norbert Gombos, both Stuttgarter Yannick Maden and Munich's Peter Gojowczyk lost their first knockout round games.

Dennis Novak (ATP 124) has proved to be a home-scare at the indoor hard court tournament in Bratislava, worth 114,800 euros. The 26-year-old clearly defeated local hero Norbert Gombos in his hometown after just 68 minutes in 7: 5, 6: 2 in two straight sets. /

By contrast, Yannick Maden (ATP 117) and Peter Gojowczyk (ATP 122) had less success in the Slovak capital in the round of the last sixteen. The Stuttgart Maden pulled against the 22-year-old South African Lloyd George Harris (ATP 99) with 6: 1, 3: 6, 3: 6 the short straw. The Munich Gojowczy also lost in three sets, namely with 2: 6, 6: 4, 0: 6 against Ilya Ivashka (ATP 142) from Bulgaria.

Novak against Travaglia

Of the six starters from Germany and Austria, only Novak remained in the quarter-finals in Slovakia. Austria's number two player, 27-year-old Italian Stefano Travaglia (ATP 86), has been beating Novak in the only match he has ever had in an ITF Futures tournament four years ago in Egypt in two sets.
