The local tennis fans were looking forward to the domestic German duel between No. 2 seeded Yannick Hanfmann (ATP 95) and Stuttgart's Yannick Maden (ATP 163) with particular anticipation. In an exciting match with outstanding rallies, Hanfmann, who was able to make the first edition of the Wolffkran Open victorious in 2017, got the upper hand with 6: 4, 6: 7 (2) and 6: 3. In round 2, the native of Karlsruhe is waiting for the next German opponent, Tobias Kamke (ATP 238).

“I am glad that we won today. Such matches are just 50:50, especially on this surface. On Friday I was still playing on clay in Sardinia, so there was almost no time to prepare as I wanted ”, said Hanfmann after the match. When asked about his opponent, the 28-year-old replied: “We have known each other for ages and have played against each other very often at youth level, there are almost no secrets. It's nice that you meet again and again and can play against each other at such a high level ”.

Brown and Marterer in action

The crowd puller Dustin Brown (ATP 254) opened the Wednesday program of the “International Indoor Championships in Bavaria”. The serve-and-volley specialist had to bow to the Swiss Marc-Andrea Hüsler (ATP 187) with 6: 7 (3), 6: 4 and 6: 7 (5) in his opening match.

Maximilian Marterer (ATP 264) has already qualified for the quarter-finals. After his 7: 6, 6: 2 victory in less than an hour against the No. 6 seed Swiss Henri Laaksonen (ATP 132), the 25-year-old Franconian sees himself against the French Antoine Hoang   (ATP 134) opposite. Hoang, who was seeded at No. 4, defeated the Italian Matteo Viola (ATP 231) in three sets.

Korda with a successful premiere on carpet

A big name in tennis experienced its baptism of fire in Ismaning on the fast indoor carpet. Sebastian Korda (ATP 138), son of the former Australian Open winner Petr Korda, faced the Czech Zdenek Kolar (ATP 228) on the Center Court. After losing the first round, the 20-year-old American fought his way back into the match and won 3: 6, 6: 3, 6: 4. In the second round, Korda, who lives in Florida, meets Julian Lenz from Giessen (265).

After the match, Korda said: “It was my first individual match on the carpet and at the beginning I had my problems with it. After losing the first set, however, I always felt more comfortable and played a good match. Of course it was a big change from the rainy, slow clay courts in Paris to the conditions here. But first of all I'm very happy that I won the match ”.
