Interesting draw for Dominic Thiem at the ATP Challenger in Marbella: first the Austrian, who is seeded in first place, has to play against the Argentinian Pedro Cahin. The 26-year-old is currently in position 226 in the ATP charts and has slipped into the main draw as an alternate.
If Thiem clears this initial hurdle on his comeback, he could meet Fernando Verdasco in round two. A potential first really big test, because Thiem has mostly had massive problems against Verdasco in the past.
Thiem reunion with Kohlschreiber?
The fourth-final opponent would be a Spaniard again: Pablo Andujar, against whom Dominic Thiem lost last year in Roland Garros after a 2-0 set lead. It's also possible that there will be a reunion with old buddy Philipp Kohlschreiber. With the young Czech Jiri Lehecka, however, he drew a rather demanding lot.
Which also applies to Stan Wawrinka , the second returnee in Marbella alongside Thiem. Wawrinka plays Elias Ymer of Sweden in round one.
