At times it was still an impressive performance against Jurij Rodionov that Andy Murray presented on the lawn in Surbiton: The two-time Wimbledon champion only won three games for his Austrian opponent. Now, a few days later, the ATP Challenger event is the end of the line for the old master, on Sunday afternoon Murray suffered a bitter three-set defeat against Denis Kudla from the USA.

The start of the match went well for Murray, who was able to make 1-0 sets 7-5. But then his American opponent got better and better in this match and finally equalized with a tie-break. The sticking point in set three was supposed to be Murray's messed up service game, which ultimately tipped the scales in favor of Denis Kudla. The 29-year-old thus secured his entry into the Surbiton final.

For Andy Murray, on the other hand, the ATP 250 event in Stuttgart will continue from Monday, where the Scot will meet a qualifier at the start. In the second round there could be a clash with Kazakh Alexander Bublik, a possible quarter-final opponent is top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas. Matteo Berrettini starts the race as number two in Stuttgart.
