Roger Federer (ATP 3) was eliminated in the third round of the ATP hard court tournament in Cincinnati, which was endowed with around six million US dollars. The 38-year-old Swiss was surprisingly defeated by the 21-year-old Russian Andrey Rublev (ATP 70) in two sets with 3: 6, 4: 6. /

On the Center Court in Cincinnati, the big surprise already began in the first sentence. At the score of 1: 2, the 102-time ATP tournament winner already had to accept the service game. The Maestro did not catch up on this deficit until the end of the set and had to admit defeat 3: 6.

From Federer's point of view, the second round was also anything but as desired. The long-time world number one could not put his game on Rublev again and lost the service at 3: 3 to 3: 4 in the meantime. By the end, it was no longer enough for the maestro to turn things around. Rublev won 6-4.

In the quarterfinals Rublev meets Daniil Medvedev (ATP 8), who defeated Jan-Lennard Struff (ATP 36).
