Not for the faint of heart: The second semi-final at the ATP Cup 2022 between defending champions Russia and Canada had to be decided in the match tie-break of the doubles. And Denis Shapovalov and Félix Auger-Aliassime finally managed to prevent another success for Daniil Medvedev in a team competition. Auger-Aliassime / Shapovalov beat Medvedev and Roman Safiullin 4: 6, 7: 5 and 10: 7.

At the start of the game at the Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney, Shapovalov had a lot of trouble against Safiullin, but won 6: 4, 5: 7 and 6: 4. Then Medvedev equalized with the 6: 4 and 6: 0 against Auger-Aliassime without any problems. With the defeat in doubles, Russia's winning streak in team competitions came to an end for the time being. After the success at the ATP Cup in 2021, Medvedev and Co. also won the Davis Cup title. However, each with Andrey Rublev as the second single player. Rublev, like Aslan Karatsev, was absent for a short time this year due to an infection with the corona virus.

In the final on Sunday the Spaniards are waiting, who will compete as single players with Pablo Carreno Busta and Roberto Bautista Agut. Spain had won against Poland on Friday.
