Denis Shapovalov and Pablo Carreno Busta started on Sunday. And the Canadian achieved a premiere in the Ken Rosewall Arena: Shapovalov was able to assert himself against Carreno Busta on hard court for the first time, winning 6: 4 and 6: 3. The Spaniard missed five break chances in the first game. If Carreno Busta had used this, the match might have gone differently.

Then Félix Auger-Aliassime and Roberto Bautista Agut fought a really big fight. The first movement alone took 85 minutes. Auger-Aliassime won it 7-3. And managed the ultimately decisive break to 5: 3 in the second act. After 2:10 hours of play, the Canadians were allowed to hug each other and celebrate.

Shapovalov tested positive

For the Spaniards, the second participation in the final at the ATP Cup ended with a defeat. In 2020, the Iberians, at that time with Rafael Nadal, lost in the final of Serbia under the leadership of Novak Djokovic.

For the Canadians, the success was all the more remarkable as Shapovalov tested positive for Corona a few days before the start of the competition. And participation in the ATPCup was questionable. The first match against the USA was even lost. After that, however, Shapovalov and Auger-Aliassime really took off.
