The matches of Alex de Minaur only seem to really pick up speed for the Australian number one when de Minaur is one set and 2: 4 behind. That's how it started against Alexander Zverev, and that's how the match against Denis Shapovalov went. De Minaur pulled his head back out of the loop and won after exactly three hours with 6: 7 (6), 6: 4 and 6: 2.

After John Millman had surprisingly won 6: 4 and 6: 2 against Félix Auger-Aliassime at the start, the home side took the second win of the first ATP Cup before the doubles. Millman, who is from Brisbane, had been nominated by Australian captain Lleyton Hewitt to replace Nick Kyrgios. Kyrgios had defeated Jan-Lennard Struff against Germany, but after a long break from the match, he didn't feel quite fit for the match against Canada.

Dimitrov leads Bulgaria to victory

Bulgaria also won the second victory. Playing Captain Grigor Dimitrov's team also defeated the Republic of Moldova 2-1 after Great Britain and will play against Belgium for the group win on Tuesday and thus for the safe entry into the quarter-finals in Sydney. Dimitrov surely won the top individual against Radu Albot 6: 2 and 6: 3.
