In France, favorite France prevailed in a Group A match against Chile. Benoit Paire turned a set deficit against Nicolas Jarry, then Gael Monfils won 6-3 and 7-5 against Cristian Garin. In the doubles Jarry and Garin then struck back: The two South Americans scored at least one point for Chile thanks to a 7-5 and 6-2 win against Nicolas Mahut and Edouard Roger-Vasselin.

In Group B, which also includes Spain with Rafael Nadal, Japan defeated Uruguay 3-0. Go Soeda and Yoshihito Nishioka did not give Martin Cuevas or Pablo Cuevas a chance in the singles. For Pablo Cuevas it was almost the maximum penalty against Nishioka: The Japanese already led 6-0 and 5-0 before the Uruguayan was granted a game win.

The doubles then became a bit more narrow, but ultimately Japan emerged victorious as well. Toshihide Matsui and Ben McLachlan defeated Ariel Behar and Pablo Cuevas 7: 6 (5) and 6: 4.

In Austria's Group E, Argentina won 2-1 against Poland. Guido Pella won his individual against Kamil Majchrzak in three sets, but Hubert Hurkacz was able to equalize thanks to a 4: 6, 6: 2 and 6: 3 victory over Diego Schwartzman. The Poles then had no chance in doubles: Maximo Gonzalez and Andreas Molteni clearly defeated Hurkacz and Lukasz Kubot 6: 2 and 6: 4.
