For Austria, the first set will probably go down in history as one of the missed opportunities: Marach / Melzer already led with break, had two set balls at 5: 4 and their own serve and also led with 3: 0 in the tie-break. At the end of the first round, only Dodig and Mektic were able to laugh, who won the short decision 7: 4.

The two veterans looked increasingly frustrated afterwards and had to give up their serve to 1: 2. The Austrians could not recover from this. The Croatians were the better team, especially on the net, made another break and won 7: 6 (4) and 6: 2.

It was Austria's third loss in the third game of the day. Dennis Novak and Dominic Thiem had previously lost. The team of Thomas Muster meets Argentina on Monday. The South Americans won their first international match against Poland 2-1 . A victory for the Austrians is therefore a must for possible progress.
