$ 15 million in prize money and up to 750 points for the ATP World Ranking List will be available from January 3, 2020 onwards. No wonder that the captains of Austria, Thomas Muster, and Germany, Boris Becker, again emphasized the importance of this new team competition at the ATP Finals in London.

While Germany face off against Australia, Greece and Canada in Brisbane, they will face the Austrian selection of top players Dominic Thiem in Sydney with Croatia, Argentina and Poland. We took a closer look at Thiem's potential matchups. Austria's number two, Dennis Novak, has not yet played against any of his potential opponents. In the doubles Jürgen Melzer and Oliver Marach are planned, the third man in the singles will be Sebastian Ofner.

Croatia, Borna Coric, Thiem leads with 3: 1

Most recently, Thiem and Croatian number one 2018 have seen the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Paris-Bercy, the Austrians prevailed in just three sets. In Madrid in 2018, there were also three sets, Thiem won as in the year before. Only the very first game was won by Borna Coric: 2017 in Miami. Another Croatian player is Marin Cilic, US Open Champion of 2014.

Argentina, Diego Schwartzman: Thiem leads 5-2

The memory of the final duel with Diego Schwartzman is still fresh for Dominic Thiem. And very positive. In the final of the Erste Bank Open Thiem won the second home win of the year, also won the match before in Barcelona sure. But also Schwartzman could record a success against Thiem in 2019: at his home tournament in Buenos Aires. The Argentine team will be joined by left-hander Guido Pella.

Poland, Hubert Hurkacz: Thiem is 0: 1 back

There was only one meeting between Hurkacz and Thiem: 2019 in Miami, immediately after the biggest career success of Dominic Thiem in Indian Wells. The Pole, listed in the ATP world rankings at position 37, prevailed with 6: 4 and 6: 4. As Polish number two Kamil Majchrzak will arrive.
