Stefanos Tsitsipas made an inglorious contribution to the ATP Cup in Brisbane: In his loss to Nick Kyrgios, the Greek maltreated a racket - and injured his father in the process.

Stefanos Tsitsipas pushed frustration

One thing has to be credited to Stefanos Tsitsipas: Even if it's only about the golden pineapple, the Greek always wants to win. Also and especially against Nick Kyrgios, with whom Tsitsipas has no good memories. At the only clash so far last year in the semifinals of Washington, Kyrgios had won 9: 7 in the tiebreak of the third set in the semifinals. And again a few antics were made.

In the reissue of the encounter in Brisbane, the local hero now behaved almost exemplary, after all Kyrgios also plays on probation. This time Tsitisipas afforded a freak: In the third set of his 6: 7 (7), 7: 6 (3), 6: 7 (5) defeat, the man from Athens hit his racket against one of the gangs, then on his chair - and injured his father Apostolos, who was the Greek captain in the coaches box.

Medvedev with Russia in the quarter-finals

It is not yet clear whether the behavior of Tsitsipas will have any consequences. The Australians, after John Millman's success against Mikhail Pervolarakis and that of Kyrgios, also won the third match and won their group with confidence.

The Russians also qualified for the quarter-finals on Tuesday with a confident 3-0 win over Norway. Daniil Medvedev inflicted the first defeat in the top game Casper Ruud with 6: 3 and 7: 6 (6).
