It should have been one of the top duels in the group phase of the ATP Cup 2022: Stefanos Tsitsipas against Hubert Hurkacz. But nothing came of that on Saturday. Because Tsitsipas withdrew a few minutes before the start of the game. At that point Poland led 1-0 after Kamil Majchrzak's success against Michail Pervolarakis. Aristotle Thanos stepped in to replace Tsitsipas.

Stefanos Tsitsipas had to pull out at the ATP Finals in Turin, then had an operation on his elbow. It has long been in doubt that the 2021 French Open finalist would even fly to Australia. On the other hand, Tsitsipas has been optimistic in the past few days. Even if he said that he actually had to start all over again.

The next few days will show whether there will still be an appearance at the ATP Cup. At the Australian Open on January 17th, Tsitsipas has to defend a semi-final. In 2021 he defeated Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals, but then lost to Daniil Medvedev.
