The inclined German tennis fan has a laughing and a crying eye on his face today. At the clay court tournament in Umag, Daniel Altmaier qualified for the main competition with a 3: 6, -6: 4, -6: 3 success over local hero Matija Pecotic. Oscar Otte, on the other hand, suffered an opening defeat in Gstaad, Switzerland. The Cologne was defeated in a duel between two qualifiers to the Belgian Zizou Bergs 6: 7 (3) and 1: 6.

Altmaier, who recently won the ATP Challenger in Braunschweig without losing a set, also defeated Italian Flavio Cobolli in three rounds in the first round of the preliminary round. At the time of going to press it was not yet clear who the Kempener will meet in the first round of the main field. Possible opponents are Corentin Moutet (France), Jiri Vesely (Czech Republic), Damir Dzumhur (Bosnia-Herzegovina) or the Wild Carld local hero Duje Ajdukovic.
