Players like Maxime Cessy just aren't made anymore these days. You always hear that when the American has proven to be a tough nut to crack with his consistent serve volley game. In Montpellier, for example, Cressy made it to the final, defeating Holger Rune on the way there.

In the first round in Dubai, Félix Auger-Aliassime had to stretch himself to win 7:6 (4), 3:6 and 6:3 after three hours of play. Last year at Wimbledon, Cressy was able to assert himself in four sets. Auger-Aliassime now plays against Lorenzo Sonego in the round of 16.

On the other hand, Daniil Medvedev, who celebrated his tenth match win in a row against Matteo Arnaldi, had no problems. Medvedev won the tournaments in Rotterdam and Doha in the past two weeks. He defeated the Italian lucky loser 6:4 and 6:2. Now it's up against Alexander Bublik, who benefited from the abandonment of Alexander Lazarov.
