Alexander Zverev had to admit defeat to Daniil Medvedev

Just eight days after the ATP Masters 1000 final in Paris, which Daniil Medvedev had won in three sets, Alexander Zverev and the Russian were already facing each other again at the ATP Finals. As in the French capital, the German got off to a good start and took Medvedev's first service game from him.

Medvedev hit back immediately and was then the better man on the field. Zverev also found more chances in the course of the first round, but the Russian made the next break to 4: 2 and then transported the first set home 6: 3. The main reason for this was primarily the weak second serve of the native hamburger.

In the second section, both players performed their serve confidently before Medvedev struck at 3: 3 and secured the decisive break. The world number four now played freely, even sprinkled an "Underam-Serve" and after 1:30 hours of play secured the 6: 3 and 6: 4 victory.

"The beginning was very intense. The second set was a bit more normal because we were both a bit tired," said Medvedev after his first victory at the ATP Finals.

Zverev will meet Diego Schwartzman on Wednesday, who only secured five games in the day session against Novak Djokovic . Medvedev, however, has to deal with the Serbian world number one.
