ATP Finals 2020: Koolhof and Mektic win double titles - final victory over Melzer / Roger-Vasselin
Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektic won the ATP Finals in doubles for the first time. In the final they beat Jürgen Melzer and Edouard Roger-Vasselin 6: 2, 3: 6 and 10: 5.

There was little to get in round one for the Austro-French pairing. Roger-Vasselin gave up his serve twice, the service from Koolhof and Mektic was not ranked - when they both served their first serve, they scored 100 percent.
In sentence it was Melzer and Roger-Vasselin's turn. The first bitter break ball to 3: 1, when Melzer left two promising forehand and Roger-Vasselin a short backhand - or better said: Koolhof did a lot. In the follow up, at the decision point, but then the break that they carried to the sentence adjustment. Amusing: This time it was Melzer and Roger-Vasselin who came up trumps with a 100 percent point quota behind the first serve. And accordingly no break chance allowed.
Match-breaker has to decide
In the match-break, Koolhof and Mektic were afflicted with a little luck early on: a volley-praise hit on the frame came, Melzer's passing ball got stuck on the edge of the net; This helped with the connection point, but Mektic was able to push the net roller past the post. A double error by Koolhof brought Melzer and Roger-Vasselin back into play, but Mektic speculated splendidly on the net at 5: 5. And then moved away with Koolhof.
For "Oldie" Melzer, who wants to end his career at the Australian Open in 2021, the final was a great success. The way to the final with partner Roger-Vasselin was crazy anyway: Both had only just qualified for the ATP Finals, then fought off six match points in the second group game. And turned a 1: 7 deficit in the match break in the semifinals.
