Nobody beats Alexander Zverev six times in a row. Or something like that could be formulated according to the great Vitas Gerulaitis. In any case, the Olympic champion from Tokyo ended his loss series of five matches against Daniil Medvedev and achieved his second triumph at the ATP Finals with a 6: 4 and 6: 4. For the first time, Zverev had won in London in 2018, then in the final against Novak Djokovic, whom he was able to defeat in a great fight in the semifinals this time.

Zverev started extremely strong despite the efforts in the semifinals, took Medvedev's serve right away - and did not allow a single break chance in round one, which he won after a playing time of 33 minutes. At this point in time, the statistics showed nine winning strokes for the German. And only one for defending champion Medvedev. Particularly noteworthy: Zverev was clearly in the front even in the longer rallies.

Zverev untouchable with its own serve

The second act started again with a loss of serve by the US Open champion, Medvedev came into the match a little better afterwards, but Zverev was hardly challenged with his own serve. In the sixth game, the native of Hamburg had to debut, but he didn't give his opponent a break chance either. After a playing time of almost 75 minutes, Zverev then closed the bag. With an ace on second serve.

It was clear before the start of the match that the result would have no effect on the world rankings: Alexander Zverev will winter as third in the world rankings, Daniil Medvedev one place before that. Novak Djokovic is unchallenged at the top. In the direct balance against Medvedev, Zverev restored the tie with the triumph of Turin, it is now 6: 6.

"I'm happy to go on vacation with this win," said Zverev after his success. There couldn't be a better way to end the season. But he's already looking forward to the coming year.
