Here is the match to read in the live ticker.
Rublev started strong and made an early break to make it 3-1. Medvedev, who won four of the previous five games against his compatriot, was lucky enough to get a re-break in the ninth game. At the score of 6: 5 and 15:40, Rublev had two set balls when Medvedev served, but he fended them off with strong serve-forehand variants. Rublev then did better in the quick decision, taking a 5-1 lead with two mini-breaks. And missed a total of seven set points before Medvedev actually won the tiebreak 9:7.
In the second act, Rublev did better. An early break was followed by another to make it 6:3. Assisted by multiple double faults from Medvedev. After 87 minutes of play, the clocks were reset to zero.
In the decision, Medvedev had to get through a tricky situation right at the beginning, but got better and better as a server and in the meantime won 19 points in a row on his own serve. Rublev didn't wobble either, didn't allow a single break chance in the final sentence. Again a tie break had to decide. That started off with a 38-shot rally that gave Rublev a 1-0 lead. A few moments later it was 33 shots - and Rublev led 3:2. The mini-break that followed was initially not enough for Rublev: Medvedev came back after being 6-3 down. Fended off the fourth match point at 6:7. But that should have been it. Because after 2:29 hours Andrey Rublev also won the match with the next fantastic rally.
In the second match of the red group, Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas face each other in the evening (from 9 p.m. live on TV and live stream on Sky). Djokovic has already won the ATP Finals five times, most recently in 2015. Stefanos Tsitsipas was successful in London in 2019.
