The shadows had long left the Gerry Weber Stadium when Alexander Zverev and Robin Haase went to work in the last individual match of the day. And also in the game of the German number one there was significantly more light than last time in Stuttgart against Dustin Brown. At least in the first sentence. Zverev took his fourth win in the sixth encounter with Haase and won after a time of 1:45 hours with 6: 4 and 7: 5.

Ivan Lendl had taken a seat in Alexander Zverev's box, just like at the MercedesCup, Marcelo Melo also supported his buddy, brother Mischa anyway. Not there, at least for this match: Alexander Sr., the coaching father.

Terrifying moment for Zverev

After winning the first set, Zverev made a slight lack of concentration at the start of round two, giving up his serve to 0: 2. In the following game, Zverev was unable to use two breakballs, slipped miserably at the start, but was able to continue playing after a short moment of shock. The rebreak to 2: 3 was only successful with the fourth chance, but Zverev thankfully accepted it. However, gave up his service immediately afterwards.

But Haase couldn't make ends meet either. Zverev wobbled again at the very last game as a server, but fixed the final result of 6: 4 and 7: 5 after 105 minutes. By the way, exactly the same result with which Zverev Haase struck in Basel in autumn 2018.

In round two, Alexander Zverev is expected to play Steve Johnson on Wednesday. The American prevented a purely German duel with Philipp Kohlschreiber. Johnson defeated Kohlschreiber in the first match of the day with 6: 3 and 6: 3.
