Hanfmann had surprisingly defeated Gael Monfils on Tuesday to confirm his good form, which had carried him to the final in Kitzbühel. Against Garin, who won the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Munich in 2019, the Karlsruher was already behind with a break in the second after losing the first set. But Hanfmann managed the turnaround, even taking a 6: 5 lead with a break. But Garin managed to equalize - and prevailed reasonably safely in the tiebreak.
The last German player in the tableau is Dominik Koepfer, who will meet Roberto Bautista Agut, who is fourth, from 6:30 p.m. today.
