Dominic Thiem will be able to cope with the fact that the dress rehearsal for the first individual appearance at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells with the defeat on the side of Steve Johnson against Nick Kyrgios and Taylor Fritz was not successful. Basically nothing can be said against the very prominent start of the game against Jordan Thompson (Sunday, 05:00 a.m.CET, in our match tracker) in stage 2 - girlfriend Kristina Mladenovic in stage 1 would not try her coup of Dubai at the same time to repeat against the world number one Naomi Osaka.

Mutual support might be necessary, but Thompson is an opponent to Thiem with whom the Lichtenwörther had no problems in the previous two games. Not even in 2017 at the Australian Open, where Thiem Thompson played for two sets and lost the third in the tie-break out of nowhere.

Thiem has more tennis fun again

The second meeting is still fresh in the memory, at the Davis Cup in Graz on sand Thiem only left the Australian four games in three rounds. Good conditions for what coach Günter Bresnik, who does not travel to Indian Wells, hopes for: that the Austrian number one will have more fun playing tennis. Nicolas Massu is supposed to do his part as a touring couch.

So it doesn't matter that Jordan Thompson has already run a marathon: For more than three hours he struggled against Federico Delbonis from Argentina in round one, finally winning in the tiebreak of the third set. Dominic Thiem will be the fresher player at the first ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the year. And if things go as smoothly as in Graz, the 25-year-old could also stop by Kiki.
