The duel between the two hard hitters from the baseline, Aslan Karatsev and Hubert Hurkacz, initially proceeded as if on an incline. The Pole controlled what was going on at Center Court in Indian Wells almost at will, using an early break to quickly clear things up. The consequence: round one went to number eight of the tournament after almost exactly 35 minutes.
This key should continue in the second movement. Karatsev was able to counter an early break by Hurkacz with a rebound, but when the Pole succeeded again immediately afterwards to take his serve from the Russian, the resistance of the 28-year-old was broken. With 6: 1 and 6: 3, Hurkacz got his quarter-final ticket. The world number twelfth is now waiting for the winner of the duel between Daniil Medvedev and Grigor Dimitrov.
Ailing Ruud is eliminated
Diego Schwartzman is also in the quarter-finals. The Argentine stopped Casper Ruud's run of success. In the first half, Schwartzman carried an early break to win the set, in the second half Ruud was able to hit back well and made an early break.
As a result, the Norwegian increasingly had to struggle with physical problems and had to be treated by the physio after three games. Schwartzman was able to use this to his advantage, managed the rebreak and now clearly had the upper hand. Against an increasingly tiring Casper Ruud, the Argentine finally won 6: 3 and 6: 3.
