After the serious allegations of an ex-girlfriend against Olympic tennis champion Alexander Zverev, the professional organization ATP has initiated an investigation. The ATP announced on Monday that it condemned "any form of violence or abuse". Olga Sharypova had repeatedly accused Zverev of physical and psychological violence during the 13-month relationship, which the world number four always denied.

"The allegations raised against Alexander Zverev are serious and we have the responsibility to deal with them," said ATP managing director Massimo Calvelli. The investigation is based on the allegations of incidents on the sidelines of the Masters tournament in Shanghai 2019, which Sharypova had made in a media report in August. Last autumn, she made several allegations against Zverev about further incidents of domestic violence public.

Zverev denies allegations

"We hope that our investigation will enable us to establish the facts and determine appropriate follow-up measures," said Calvelli: "We assume that Zverev welcomes our investigation and confirm that he has denied all allegations."

Zverev had rejected the allegations in August via Twitter as "defamatory and untrue". "I categorically deny having abused Olga," wrote the 24-year-old from Hamburg. In addition, Zverev had announced that his lawyers had obtained an injunction "against the source and the author" and that the competent court had followed his argument.
