Dominic Thiem had already benefited from a task from his opponent Reilly Opelka in his individual opening match . In the double competition, the Austrian can save even more energy together with Diego Schwartzman - Grigor Dimitrov, who failed individually in the first round to Taylor Fritz, cannot compete in the round of 16.
The Bulgarian suffers from shoulder problems and does not want to take any chances for the upcoming tournament in Rome. Dimitrov's partner Karen Khachanov is the victim, but he is still at least in the singles and meets Fernando Verdasco on Wednesday. The two individual specialists had surprisingly won in the first round against the four seeded Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah.
An Austrian clash could now take place in the quarter-finals. To do this, Oliver Marach and partner Mate Pavic would have to remove the two Argentinians Maximo Gonzalez and Horacio Zeballos from the competition.
