If you believe social media, then Alexander Zverev is one of those players who also feels pretty comfortable in an empty Arthur Ashe Stadium. The German number one has been in New York City for a few days, has also watched Novak Djokovic during training and subjected the target arts of the world number one from the stands to a serious (and passed by Djokovic) test. Zverev could have a small hit in his first match in singles, namely if Andy Murray should prevail against Frances Tiafoe. Against Tiafoe, Zverev played in the same Artgur Ashe Stadium in 2019, the American knew less playfully than to impress with a toilet break that took a hand-stopped 13 minutes.

Zverev's preferred double partner, brother Mischa, is not in New York, which is why Sascha looked around among the German Davis Cup colleagues. And found what he was looking for in Tim Pütz. The two play against the pair of seventh seeded Oliver Marach and Raven Klaasen. The chances of getting ahead are not bad, Marach could hardly train during the Corona break, as he said in the tennisnet podcast "Quiet, please".

Struff on Mahut's side

Tim Pütz, on the other hand, feels very comfortable at the side of Jan-Lennard Struff, but the Warsteiner has caught an absolute specialist in pair skating with Nicolas Mahut for the Cincinnati tournament that has been moved to New York. Mahut's ancestral partner, Pierre-Hugues Herbert, reached the semifinals at the ATP Challenger tournament in Prague this week. It remains to be seen whether Herbert will travel to the USA for the US Open.

The reigning French Open champions Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies should have the best prospects for success. The two start the race in sixth place and reached the semifinals of the US Open on the spot almost a year ago. Krawietz / Mies start against the two Croatians Boran Coric and Franko Skugor.
