ATP Masters Indian Wells: Diego Schwartzman and Casper Ruud struggle into the round of 16

Diego Schwartzman and Casper Ruud made it to the round of 16 of the ATP Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells on Monday. But both had to work reasonably hard for that.

Diego Schwartzman made a huge self-defeat in his third round duel with Dan Evans in the first round. The Argentine had already been in the front 5: 2 in the first round, but then made a terrible service game and had to give up the set 5: 7 after losing five games in a row. The world number 15. but put it away well, managed to equalize the set 6: 4. And was now clearly the better man in the decision-making set - in the end, the 29-year-old even distributed the maximum penalty and bought his round of 16 ticket.

Casper Ruud, number nine of the tournament, also made it into the round of 16 on Monday. The Norwegian faced South African Lloyd Harris in round three, who had an extremely strong 2021 season. And who also had the better answers in the first round and was finally able to set 7: 4 to 1: 0 in the tiebreak. But Ruud fought his way back, won the second round 6: 4 and also made an early break in set three. The preliminary decision in this game: Ruud finally won 6: 7 (4), 6: 4 and 6: 4.
