Rafael Nadal had expected a meeting with Jannik Sinner in the round of 16, but Alexei Popyrin had something against it. And so the record winner of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid dealt with the Australian. And, as expected, certainly prevailed. Nadal won 6: 3 and 6: 3 and will play in the quarter-finals on Friday against either Alexander Zverev or Daniel Evans. The German and British number one meet on Thursday evening in the Caja Magica.

Nadal made short trials on Wednesday when he entered the third 1000 event of the year with Carlos Alcaraz, leaving only three games to the Spanish hope on their 18th birthday. Nadal had to fight a little harder against Popyrin - but, unlike his opponent, knew how to use his chances. Popyrin had made it into the main draw in Madrid via the qualifying tournament.

Thiem picks up speed

Daniil Medvedev, who still has his problems with the ashes, is eliminated. Medvedev played a strong second set, but ultimately lost to Cristian garin 4: 6, 7: 6 (2) and 1: 6. Garin is waiting for the winner of the match between Matteo Berrettini and Federico Delbonis.

Dominic Thiem is slowly gaining momentum, who was able to prevail against Alex de Minaur with 7: 6 (7) and 6: 4. Thiem plays against Andrey Rublev or John Isner. On the other hand, Aslan Karatsev failed because of Alexander Bublik.
