19th victory in a row for Carlos Alcaraz on Spanish soil: the world number two and defending champion from Madrid defeated Karen Khachanov 6:4 and 7:5 in a close match. The Russian was already 4:1 in the second set and even had chances to turn things around with a second break. However, Alcaraz won the last five games and scored his first match ball after a playing time of 1:50 hours.

The last defeat in his home country was almost exactly two years ago: in 2021 Alcaraz lost to a brilliant Rafael Nadal in Madrid. Last year, Alcaraz returned the favor to Nadal, who is absent from the current edition, on the way to winning the title. Carlos Alacarz has only lost two matches this season: in the final in Rio de Janeiro against Cameron Norrie and in the semifinals in Miami against Jannik Sinner.

In the semi-finals, Alcaraz will now face either the German lucky loser Daniel Altmaier or Borna Coric from Croatia. The two are contesting the second match of the night session today, which starts at 8 p.m.
