Stefanos Tsitsipas and sand - that's compatible at the moment. The Greek, who is already the first Masters champion this year, has made a good start to the tournament in the Spanish capital after his strong performances at the ATP 500 event in Barcelona.

With Benoit Paire, Tsitsipas got to do with a man who was most recently primarily responsible for negative headlines and who mostly only became conspicuous because of his lack of motivation. Well, in Madrid, Paire was a bit refined and won against Munich champion Basilashvili at the start.
Tsitsipas too strong for Paire
Against Stefanos Tsitsipas, however, there was nothing for Paire on this Wednesday evening. Right from the start, the Frenchman had to admit without envy that his counterpart was in top form. The logical consequence: round one went 6: 1 to Tsitsipas.
The fifth in the world number also made the first break in set two - which he should ultimately transport safely to 6: 1 and 6: 2 success. In the second round, Tsitsipas will now face Casper Ruud or Yoshihito Nishioka.
