He had been able to train a lot in the past few weeks, Novak Djokovic had said before the match. And this training paid off against a fearless Jannik Sinner. Because the industry leader was once again outstanding on the defensive, repeatedly throwing in stops and thereby pulling his young opponent's tooth. After 93 minutes, Djokovic used his third match point to make it 6: 4 and 6: 2.

In the next round, Djokovic meets the winner of the match between Hubert Hurkacz and Daniel Evans.

Before that, Andrey Rublev had prevailed against another Italian: Rublev defeated Salvatore Caruso 6: 3 and 6: 2. Another round is defending champion Fabio Fognini, who was successful against Jordan Thompson with 6: 3 and 6: 3.
