ATP Masters Paris-Bercy: Daniil Medvedev with drive and experience into the final

Daniil Medvedev has finished his negative run of the last few weeks in the Paris district of Bercy and is in the final. In this, the Russian would like to use the good momentum and the experience of the last ATP Masters 1000 finals in his favor.

After the end of the semifinals of the US Open 2020, Daniil Medvedev didn’t really run together: After the Russian had already delivered a suitable performance during the shortened clay court season and did not get past the first round in Roland Garros, it also ran on his Favorite surface, the hard court, not really good for the fifth in the world rankings. Both in Vienna and St. Petersburg, Mevdedev fell short of his expectations, so these were correspondingly low in the run-up to the ATP Masters 1000 event in Paris-Bercy.

The 24-year-old is now in the final, defeating Milos Raonic in two sets on Saturday. It was not his best tennis that he brought onto the court today, but it was still one of the best games of the season, the Russian said with a view to his mixed season. "At the beginning of the year I played well and then there was a break. I actually played well at the US Open and in Cincinnati," said Medvedev following his success in the semi-finals.

Something would work particularly well here in Paris, possibly the court or the balls, the Russian speculated. "I also know that if you train well and do your job, there will come a moment when the feeling comes back. That moment was here in Paris, which is good because it is my first final," said Medvedev. This is now against the German Alexander Zverev, who defeated Rafael Nadal in the semifinals with an impressive performance.

"They are both incredible players, but in the final of an ATP Masters 1000 event you don't have an easy opponent either," the Russian said before the two ended their semi-finals. It doesn't matter who it's up against tomorrow, both players are "very hard to beat", as Medvedev said. "I now have to prepare well and show my best tennis tomorrow," said the 24-year-old. In addition, Medvedev would like to use his experience in the final, as the fifth in the world rankings played in several ATP Masters 1000 finals last year.

He lost his first very easily to Rafael Nadal, but things have improved significantly since then. "When you stand in an ATP Masters 1000 final for the first time, you are very tense, your hands are shaking because you think it could be your last final at a Masters 1000," said the Russian. With the second and third finals, these emotions would have been easier to cope with: "Hopefully this experience will help me tomorrow."
