Olympic champion Alexander Zverev confidently reached the semifinals at the ATP Masters in Paris. The number four seeded Hamburg won a match at top level against the Norwegian Casper Ruud (No. 6) 7: 5, 6: 4. Zverev had already won the quarter-finals against Ruud at the Masters in Cincinnati at the end of August. In the semi-finals on Saturday, the 24-year-old will now face US Open winner Daniil Medvedev (Russia / No. 2), who beat Frenchman Hugo Gaston 7: 6 (9: 7), 6: 4.

The world number four Zverev and the four places below placed Ruud fought a close duel from the start. The German number one gradually increased during the first set, Zverev first secured the break to 6: 5 and then won his service game with ease.

Djokovic versus Hurkacz

In the second set, Zverev then showed his best tennis, gave his tough opponent no real chance and used his first match point after 1:34 hours.

On Thursday, Dominik Koepfer was eliminated after two surprise victories against world number tenth Hubert Hurkacz and had lost the chance of the second Masters quarter-finals of his career. Koepfer had eliminated the three-time Grand Slam winner Andy Murray (Great Britain) after seven match points against himself and then the US Open semi-finalist Felix Auger-Aliassime (Canada) in the previous rounds.
