The last meetings at the soccer World Cup between Germany and Austria had a historical character. And they are a long time ago: In 1978 there was the legendary 3: 2 of the Austrians in Cordoba, four years later the 1: 0 of the Germans went down in football history as the "shame of Gijon". Now the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Munich cannot be compared to a summit meeting in football, but tomorrow's doubles final does have a certain appeal: Because Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz meet the current German Davis Cup doubles to its Austrian counterpart in Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler.

Krawietz, who last year won the MTTC Iphitos title with Andreas Mies, now beat Philipp Oswald from Vorarberg and his Dutch partner Robin Haase 7:6 (8) and 6:2 with Pütz on the day of the semifinals. A few minutes later Erler and Miedler followed with a 7:6 (4) and 6:3 against the two Indians Yuki Bhambri and Saketh Myneni.

Both nations are no longer represented in the singles. Dominic Thiem was the last Austrian to fail on Friday because of Taylor Fritz. The German Armada was already completely driven out of the 28 grid on Thursday. Top man Alexander Zverev lost in two sets to Christopher O'Connell from Australia.
