The ATP Board plans to select Massimo Calvelli as the new CEO. The 45-year-old Italian, currently at Nike, is said to occupy the position of incumbent Chris Kermode, according to the British media company. Kermode had lost this position of the Managing Board member and the office of ATP President eight months ago in a vote for lack of sufficient votes on the Board. /

The former tennis pro from Florence is, according to the Telegraph, a friend of Andrea Gaudenzi, the Italian former ATP player, who was announced a few weeks ago as the new chairman of the ATP.

Split the items

The ATP has in the past usually only one person, who held both the positions of the CEO and the office of Chairmans. Recently, however, they had decided to split the functions to avoid conflicts of interest between tournaments and players. Players on the ATP Player Council who select members of the players' board once spoke of the CEO's reluctance to vote for both sides.

Also new to the ATP board is Mark Knowles, who was named Player Representative a few weeks ago. ATP has not specified an appointment when its CEO should be announced.
