ATP Cup: Sky transmits the new team competition

Sky Germany has secured the transmission rights for the ATP Cup. The newly created tennis team competition will take place in Australia from 3 to 12 January, Germany will compete with Hamburger Alexander Zverev and Jan-Lennard Struff, Austria with Dominic Thiem and Dennis Novak.

All games with German participation shows Sky live and with German commentary as part of the sports package. In addition, selected games in free-TV run on Sky Sport News HD. Germany meet hosts Australia, Greece and Canada in the group stage in Brisbane. You play two singles and one double per game. The six group winners and the two best runners-up qualify for the four-day co-phase in Sydney.

The ATP Cup replaces the Hopman Cup starting next year and picks up on the tradition of the World Team Cup, which was held in Dusseldorf between 1978 and 2012. In total, 24 nations participate. It is played in the Australian metropolises of Brisbane, Sydney and Perth. The Austrians work with team principal Thomas Muster in Sydney against Poland, Croatia and Argentina. In addition to Thiem and Novak, Jürgen Melzer and Oliver Marach will probably play in the doubles. In the German team Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies have secured the pole position.

The world elite is closed except for Roger Federer. After the withdrawal of Federer and the early cancellation of Stan Wawrinka Switzerland will not provide a team at the ATP Cup.
