ATP Paris-Bercy: Koepfer kicks Auger-Aliassime from the Turin race

Félix Auger-Aliassime will not qualify for the ATP Finals 2021. That is now finally certain after the 3: 6, 5: 7 against Dominik Koepfer at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Paris-Bercy.

The starting position was extremely difficult for Auger-Aliassime, if not impossible: The Canadian, who is still waiting for his first title win on the ATP tour, should have won the tournament in Paris-Bercy. And his competitors for a place at the ATP Finals in Turin shouldn't have come too far. However, Auger-Aliassime made too many simple mistakes against Koepfer, and the serve did not work in the decisive phases.

Koepfer, who came into the main draw as a lucky loser and won against Andy Murray in the first round after defending seven match points, will face either Tommy Paul or Hubert Hurkacz in tomorrow's round of 16. In contrast to Auger-Aliassime, the Pole still has a chance of participating in the ATP's annual tournament for the first time. But in Paris-Bercy it has to do better than his rivals Casper Ruud and Jannik Sinner, who are ahead of him.

Sinner will meet Carlos Alcaraz on Wednesday, Ruud is already in the round of 16 after beating Alexander Bublik. The Briton Cameron Norrie, who surprisingly won the 1000 event in Indian Wells, also has small chances of one of the eight permanent places in Turin. Norrie has to play against Reilly Opelka in round two.
