There is really no shame in fighting a tough but ultimately unsuccessful fight with Hubert Hurkacz. The Pole reached the final of the top eight players of the season for the first time in 2021 - and starts this week in fourth place in the ATP Tour 500 tournament. Which will be no consolation for Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Because the 4: 6 and 6: 7 (7) meant the next early defeat for the former top ten man. Last week in Montpellier, Tsonga had won against Kacper Zuk in the opener, but lost to Filip Krajinovic in round two.
Things are not going well for David Goffin either. The Belgian lost 6-0 and 6-3 against Alex de Minaur from Australia. De Minaur now plays against Mackenzie McDonald, who beat Nikoloz Basilashvili.
The tournament tableau is led by Stefanos Tsitsipas, who opens against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Defending champion Andrey Rublev starts against the Swiss qualifier Henri Laaksonen.
