Dominik Köpfer (ATP 88) has so far managed to move into the main field three times by qualifying for an ATP tournament. The 25-year-old Black Forest, who had made the headlines at the US Open with his round of 16, was able to qualify at the ATP Masters tournament in Shanghai with a 7-5, 6-4 against the Chinese Yecong He (ATP 619) - Reach the final.
Should the German number four prevail on Sunday (8.40 a.m.CEST) against the top-placed Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta (ATP 39), Köpfer beckons to take part in the main round of the $ 8.3 million hard court tournament. This would make Köpfer the third German participant in Shanghai alongside Alexander Zverev (ATP 6) and Jan-Lennard Struff (ATP 37).
Peter Gojowczyk (ATP 95) can already leave the Chinese metropolis. The 30-year-old from Munich lost to the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka (ATP 77) in the first qualifying round with 3: 6, 6: 2, 3: 6. Since the semi-final loss to the ATP Tour 500 tournament in Washington in early August, it has been Gojowczyk's eighth loss in a row.
