ATP tournament in Washington joins Andy Murray's Ukraine aid

Murray's action provided inspiration, "and we're announcing today that we're going to double the amount Andy earns here and donates to UNICEF," tournament boss Mark Ein said . "We will also create a fan portal called Match Ukraine where fans can get involved. You can donate per game. You can be part of Andy's journey. In fact, we will grow the portal throughout the year. With a win in Washington, Murray would win $342,800 and donate it to Ukraine.

In the run-up to the tournament, Murray was also able to speak to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken about what was happening in Ukraine.

"It's great. Thanks to Mark and the whole team here for supporting this. It shows that when the players and the tournaments work together, really good things can happen. Hopefully I can have a good run," said Murray .

"You can't just forget that. (...) People are still being killed, children are still having to flee their homes and are in really tragic situations. It's important that the media continue to shed light and talk about it ."

In addition to Murray, Andrey Rublev, Taylor Fritz, Nick Kyrgios, Hubert Hurkacz and Denis Shapovalov are also registered at the 500 tournament in the US capital.

Murray will play his first match on Monday afternoon. The opening opponent is Mikael Ymer.
