Papa is still the chief. Mischa Zverev recorded this last autumn in relation to the distribution of roles in the Zverev clan. In fact, however, Alexander sr. Haven't seen him on the tour for a long time, the constant travel companion next to Physio Hugo Gravil is now brother Mischa. In times of a pandemic, however, this may also be due to other circumstances.

The situation is more interesting in Stefanos Tsitsipas' team. Most recently in Rotterdam, father Apostolos was not seen in the Greek's box, but Thomas Enqvist. The Swede is something of an emotional counterpart to Tsitsipas Sr., who knows how to comment on what is happening in his son's matches at any time. At the Australian Open, even the officials went too far: In the semifinals against Daniil Medvedev, Apostolos was placed under the watch of the Greek referee Eva Asderaki Moore. And promptly warned.

Sinner makes a clear cut

So does that mean that Stefanos Tsitsipas has emancipated himself from Mr. Papa? Not so fast. The next big test is coming up in Acapulco this week, it's quite possible that Apostolos Tsitsipas has already taken over the coaching again. And somehow Patrik Mouratoglou is also involved.

The situation with Jannik Sinner is much clearer. He made a clear cut to his mentor Riccardo Piatti and is now trying Simone Vagnozzi. A courageous step, after all, Sinner is only at the beginning of his career. Parallels to Boris Becker and Günther Bosch do not quite draw: Because when Becker separated from his coach, the German was already allowed to operate as a Grand Slam champion. A comparison with Dominic Thiem's situation at the beginning of 2019 is more appropriate, when the long-term employment relationship with Günter Bresnik broke up. At the time, Thiem was of course much further along in his career than Sinner is now.

In any case, Zverev, Tsitsipas and Sinner are facing a common problem: the dominance of the Big Three (in recent years only Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal). The box still has to come up with a few things. It doesn't matter who's in charge there.
