Jimmy Connors has certainly inspired many fans - most recently in 1991

The special charm of tennis is that the fans can see great, memorable matches every week. It was the legendary Davis Cup match between Boris Becker and John McEnroe in Hartford. Or a Wimbledon final in which Roger Federer awards two match balls. Or "just" be a Monday final at an ATP Tour 250 tournament like in Munich 2015 between Andy Murray and Philipp Kohlschreiber.

In the best case, such events inspire young or somewhat older people to approach tennis for the first time or again. See also the boom that was triggered by the successes of Boris Becker and Steffi Graf in Germany in the 1980s. The ATP website would now like to find out which matches inspired you. Who wants to participate: Write an essay with a maximum of 500 words, in inspiring English. And email it to fans@atptour.com. Important: Do not send the grandiose pamphlet as an attachment, but directly in the mail. The detailed participation information can be found here.

Of course, only you know which part it was that made you re-string the racket. We, as veteran tennis fans, once again remember the run of Jimmy Connors at the 1991 US Open as an example of successful inspiration. 39 years old, in the first round against Patrick McEnroe with 0: 2 sets and 0: 3 back, and yet with a final attack on the big title, which was only stopped in the semifinals by a compatriot.
