Taylor Fritz had to give up in the round of 16 in Washington against Daniel Evans in the third round

Stressful days for organizers and players at the Citi Open in Washington. Due to heavy rain on Thursday (local time), only three round of 16 games could be completed in the men's game. The remaining five matches, including the quarter-finals, must be completed this Friday - the encounters in the women's tournament, which is taking place at the same time as the ATP World Tour 500 event in DC, must also be accommodated in the densely packed daily program.

The biggest surprise came when number three Taylor Fritz lost as a result of giving up: the American had to handshake prematurely when the score was 3: 6, 6: 7 (6) and 1: 4 against Briton Daniel Evans - the 24th -year-old Californian had to pay tribute to the inhumanly hot and humid weather conditions on this exceptional day.

Kyrgios and Dimitrov on the trigger

A smaller but equally remarkable surprise was offered by the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka, who gave the seventh-ranked Russian Karen Khachanov absolutely no chance in two tie-breaks 7: 6 (2), 7: 6 (1). Also in the round of 16 is Mikael Ymer, who had the upper hand in the Scandinavian duel against the Finn Emil Ruusuvuori 6:3, 6:7 (3), 6:4.

Grigor Dimitrov's games against Sebastian Korda (6:4, 0:0 from the Bulgarian's point of view), Botic van de Zandschulp against Frances Tiafoe (6:4, 2:6, 0:0 from the Dutchman's point of view) were abandoned. and Nick Kyrgios against Reilly Opelka (7-6 (1), 2-1 from the Australian's point of view). The top seeded Andrey Rublev played against Maxime Cressy and Holger Rune against JJ Wolf on Thursday.

We can only hope that today's game day will remain dry - the weather service promises rather changeable conditions even until the final Sunday.

Here is the single tableau from Washington.
