Will there be a swap between these two men soon?

Dominic Thiem has taken 1,200 points home from the Australian Open and is currently only 85 points behind Roger Federer in fourth place in the ATP world rankings. And he will soon have a lot of points to defend: In Dubai there are those 500 points that the Swiss got last year for his 100th career title.

These points will be lost to Federer on March 2, defending his title in his second home seems difficult given the outstanding form of Novak Djokovic, who will also compete in Dubai again this year. Also because Federer had to face physical problems at the end of the Australian Open.

Thiem can only score in Rio

Should Federer not win in Dubai, Dominic Thiem will reach a new career high on March 2nd. Thiem himself will only be able to gain points again at the ATP Tour 500 tournament in Rio de Janeiro, a victory in Buenos Aires if he actually competes there, which would bring a lot of self-confidence and a lot of prize money, but would only be the 250 points from Kitzbühel replace.

But that also means that Thiem would have to reach at least the final in Rio to score. There are 300 points for a final place, but Thiem would not pull past Federer yet. This would only be the case with a second triumph under the sugar loaf.
After that, however, it will soon be hairy for the Austrian too - after all, the title defense and thus 1,000 counters for the ATP charts are at stake in Indian Wells. With the final in Melbourne, however, Dominic Thiem put on a nice pillow of points.
