Medvedev made up 500 points and passed Casper Ruud again in third place in the ATP ranking (with 5,655 points). Still in the lead: Carlos Alcaraz (6,730 points) in front of Rafael Nadal (5,810 points).

The fight for the top of the world rankings could still be exciting in the season finale, after all, Rafael Nadal has also called for the Masters tournament in Paris, which starts today. And would probably play the ATP Finals afterwards.

Felix Auger-Aliassime also climbed up a place thanks to his win in Basel and is now number 8.

Fritz and Hurkacz: Victory in Paris is necessary for ATP Finals

In any case, the fight for the last free places in Turin is exciting: Alcaraz, Nadal, Ruud, Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Novak Djokovic are certainly qualified, behind them FAA and Andrey Rublev currently have the best chances. Taylor Fritz and Hubert Hurkacz need tournament success in Paris to overtake them.

There were no major movements behind them, but new career highs for Holger Rune (18th), Emil Ruusuvuori (41st), Arthur Rinderknech (42nd), Marc-Andrea Huesler (61st) and Roman Safiulin.

Daniel Altmaier moved up to 91st place with his Challenger victory in Lima.

Dominic Thiem in 100th place

Dominic Thiem, meanwhile, has placed 100th with his points from Vienna, after there was initially some chaos from the ATP and two "zero" tournaments with Indian Wells and Miami had been calculated for him. Wrongly so, as the Kitzbühel tournament boss Alex Antonitsch found out and drew the ATP's attention to it.

Thiem has thus also achieved his late season goal, direct qualification for the Australian Open 2022.

Double: Erler and Boeder with career highs, Pütz with Turin chances

Also pleasing from an Austrian point of view: After their double tournament victory in Vienna, Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler have achieved new top positions with 50th and 55th place respectively.

Best German in doubles: Tim Pütz in 10th place. Pütz can also reach the ATP Finals in Turin with his partner Michael Venus - so far only four of eight pairings have been fixed. The decision will be made in Paris this week.
