Australia mourns Grand Slam champ Ashley Cooper

Australia mourns its four-time Grand Slam champ Ashley Cooper.

According to the Australian Tennis Association, Cooper died on Friday at the age of 83 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife Helen, with whom he was married for 61 years.

Before the Open Era, Cooper had won four major individual titles in the 1950s - 1957 and 1958 at the Australian Open, 1958 at Wimbledon and at the US Open. He also triumphed four times in the majors in doubles. In 1957 he won the Davis Cup with Australia.

Cooper was particularly present at his home tournament. In 2018, he presented Roger Federer with the winning trophy.
