Novak Djokovic (1 / SRB) - Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (WC / FRA) 6: 3, 7: 5, 6: 3

Alexander Zverev (4 / GER) - Jeremy Chardy (FRA) 7: 6 (5), 6: 4, 5: 7, 6: 7 (6), 6: 1

Alexei Popyrin (AUS) - Dominic Thiem (7 / AUT) 7: 5, 6: 4, 2: 0 where

Very bitter for Thiem, who apparently weakened from his opening match and had to give up at the beginning of the third set. Here is the detailed game report.

Fabio Fognini (12 / ITA) - Leonardo Mayer (ARG) 7: 6 (3), 6: 3, 7: 6 (5)

Mayer loses his 22nd match against a top 20 player in a Grand Slam. Fognini fought a little with the spectators on the 1573 Court, but spurred on by this he defeated his opponent in just under two and a half hours. In the third round he meets Pablo Carreno-Busta.

Daniil Medvedev (15 / RUS) - Ryan Harrison (USA) 6: 3, 6: 3, 6: 3

The Russian once again underlines why many call him an insider tip. He never let his opponent come in and is 5-1 in 2019. Against David Goffin in round three you will see what he is made of.

Joao Sousa (POR) - Philipp Kohlschreiber (32 / GER) 7: 5, 4: 6, 7: 6 (4), 5: 7, 6: 4

With a new career record of 28 aces, Sousa takes Kohli out of the tournament after five contested sets. The Portuguese played a whopping 13 hours in the past 48 hours, singles and doubles combined. Kohlschreiber was able to top his first round defeat from the previous year with a second round. Here is the detailed game report!

Lucas Pouille (28 / FRA) - Maximilian Marterer (GER) 7: 6 (8), 7: 6 (8), 5: 7, 6: 4

Pouille, who traveled to Melbourne with Amelie Mauresmo as a coach, could not win a single match at the Australian Open until 2019. He is now in the third round and takes the second German out of the tournament on day 4 after Philipp Kohlschreiber. Pouille has a good chance of surviving another round against Alexei Popyrin.

Milos Raonic (16 / CAN) - Stan Wawrinka (SUI) 6: 7 (6), 7: 6 (4), 7: 6 (11), 7: 6 (5)

Incredible tiebreak thriller with the better ending for the Aufschag machine. Didn't make a single mistake with their own service, especially in the third tie-break, and took the last nerve from a strong Wawrinka. Here is the match report.

Borna Coric (11 / CRO) - Marton Fucsovics (HUN) 6: 4, 6: 3, 6: 4

In Dominic Thiem's quarter, Coric only had problems at the beginning of his second round game. He quickly eliminated a loss to 2: 3 and then only allowed a breakball until the last game. Had to be treated on the thigh in the second set, but his opponent, too. This seemed to suffer more and didn't look fresh during the game.

Kei Nishikori (8 / JPN) - Ivo Karlovic (CRO) 6: 3, 7: 6 (6), 5: 7, 5: 7, 7: 6 (7)

Who would have thought: That Ivo Karlovic would cost the sensation against Kei Nishikori at the end of the serve: The Croatian led 7: 6 in the tiebreak of the fifth set, had two serves and should not make a point in the whole match. For Nishikori, it was already the second five-set victory in Melbourne in 2019. At the start, the Japanese had also had to play the fifth set against the Polish qualifier Kamil Majchrzak. The next opponent is the winner of the game between Philipp Kohlschreiber and Joao Sousa.
