If Billie Jean King was happy, then all tennis fans should be too. Or? After Switzerland's victory in the final against the brave Australians, the namesake of the most important team competition was very satisfied with the short week in Glasgow, during which the last women's title of the year was awarded. Under special circumstances, as you know. But in a few years nobody will ask about that anymore.

Because the world number one Iga Swiatek was not available to the Poles due to the incomprehensible schedule, and Jessica Pegula, the best American of the year, did not play either - you cannot blame Belinda Bencic and Co. for that. It was the Swiss women's turn. Point. Especially since last year they saw themselves disadvantaged by the (too) late personnel castling of the ultimately victorious Russian team.

Great Britain narrowly missed the sensation

The hall in Glasgow didn't tremble on the day of the final - like it did on Saturday, when the Brits were close to reaching the final right up to the very end. But what would have been too much of a good thing. After all, the British women were already eliminated in the spring. And it was only thanks to a wildcard that we made it into the final week.

So is the "World Cup of Tennis", as Billie Jean King called it in her final tweet, the royal solution? Counter question: What would be the alternative? A return to the classic format might be a joy for tennis purists. However, it would be interesting to know how the players assess the situation. Because besides the honor of playing for their home country, a fairly large number of women took away a few cents that they would not have gotten otherwise.
