A very, very big sign of life in Austrian women's tennis: The ÖTV women achieved a 3-2 home win over Latvia in the play-offs of the Billie Jean King Cup in the Multiversum in Schwechat. Austria is now in the qualifying round of the world group and is playing for promotion to the finals of the largest women's team competition in tennis in April.

First Sinja Kraus had to accept a 0:6, 6:3, 1:6 defeat against the Latvian number one Jelena Ostapenko, despite a strong performance in the second set, then Tamira Paszek equalized with 6:2, 6: 3 against Diana Marcinkevica. Afterwards Melanie Klaffner / Kraus won the decisive third point in doubles against Marcinkevica / Ostapenko with a strong 7:5, 6:3 victory.
